Busch edges Johnson in IROC thriller at Monterey Motorsports Reunion

Kurt Busch edged Jimmie Johnson by a mere .002 seconds to win the Unser Family Cup at WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway as part of the 2026 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Last year's inaugural IROC winner at Laguna Seca, Tomy Drissi, claimed the third podium spot.

Busch and Johnson led an all-star field and battled back and forth, swapping leads throughout the race before the photo finish with Busch surging past Johnson just in time. Busch's win was his second IROC victory this season as he claimed victory in a battle versus Jeff Gordon at the Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Club in Concord, N.C. in April.

The return of IROC to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca follows a highly successful debut appearance at the 2025 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, where the IROC Presented By Chevrolet Unser Family Cup became one of the weekend’s most anticipated attractions.

Bobby Labonte, four-time INDYCAR champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti, CART champion and Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Sullivan, and five-time overall winner of the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA Scott Pruett, were some of the other notable racers competing again this year.
